Akira Fujioka, better known as Afra (stylized as AFRA), is a japanese beatboxer and looper.
History[]
AFRA is considered one of the pioneers of beatbox in Japan. He was born in Suita, Osaka Prefecture. He was introduced to beatboxing in 1996 after seeing Rahzel of The Roots perform.
AFRA moved to the United States in 1999, where he interacted with beatboxers such as Kenny Muhammad, Emanon, BABA, and D.O.A., and formed the crew Kenny Muhammad & MB2000.
He was the only Japanese beatboxer to appear in the hip-hop film "SCRATCH" (2001) and the first documentary film to focus on human beatboxing, "Breath Control" (2002).
He also returned to Japan in 2004 and was featured in Fujifilm's "FUJI XEROX" television commercial, which helped popularize beatboxing in Japan.
