Mohamed Belkhir, better known as MB14, is a French beatboxer and looper. He is a former member of the beatbox group Berywam.

History[]

MB14 is from Amiens.[1] He first experimented with music through rapping, having "[written his] first verses when [he] was 12".[2] He started beatboxing in 2010 after listening to a song by the music group Naturally 7 on the radio and finding out it was entirely vocal. His interest in beatboxing grew after discovering videos of Naturally 7, Eklips, Joseph Poolpo, Tom Thum, and Beardyman. "Curious about music", he was soon motivated to develop his musical abilities. He taught himself how to play instruments like the guitar and keyboard and "trained [his] ear ... to understand ... harmonies and chords".[3]

MB14 started looping in 2013 after buying a BOSS RC-30. He "made a couple shows with it" alongside a guitarist friend before eventually performing solo.[3]

In 2016, MB14 was invited to compete in Season 5 of The Voice France after producers watched his cover of "Teardrop" by Massive Attack. He was hesitant at first, but he eventually agreed to audition. He managed to win second place. After The Voice, he signed a recording contract with Polydor but eventually parted ways with them, citing concerns about his artistic freedom.[3]

Around this time, he was also invited to join the beatbox group Berywam to replace a member and participate in the French Beatbox Championship.[2] He left the group in 2018.

He competed on Britain's Got Talent in 2023.
